About the treatment
We aim to preserve natural teeth where possible, but extraction may sometimes be recommended when a tooth is severely decayed, damaged beyond repair or causing problems for surrounding teeth.
Before a standard or wisdom tooth extraction, we assess the tooth and explain the expected procedure, risks and aftercare. Local anaesthetic is used to numb the area. IV sedation may also be considered for suitable nervous patients and costs £350 per hour.

Assessment-led care
The extraction procedure is performed under local anaesthetic to numb the area. You may notice pressure or movement, and we can pause if you need us to. For more complex cases or nervous patients, IV sedation may be discussed after a suitability assessment.
If a tooth other than a wisdom tooth is removed, we can discuss whether it needs to be replaced. Options may include dental implants from £2,750, bridges or dentures. The appropriate choice depends on your oral health, the position of the gap, your preferences and your budget.

Personal, assessment-led care
"No one looks forward to an extraction, so we take it steadily: a careful assessment, honest advice, and sedation options if you need them."

Wisdom Tooth Extraction FAQs
Your consultation is the right place to discuss suitability, alternatives and what your own care may involve.
No. A wisdom tooth may not need treatment if it is not causing problems and can be kept clean. We assess your symptoms, the tooth's position and the surrounding tissues before discussing whether monitoring or removal is appropriate.
