Care for receding gums
Gum recession can expose part of a tooth root and may be linked with sensitivity, changes in appearance or difficulty keeping the area clean. Gum graft surgery adds tissue to a carefully selected area when this is clinically appropriate.
Dr Robin Ratcliffe will first assess the recession and its likely cause. Active gum disease and contributing factors need to be addressed before grafting is considered.

Specialist planning
There are different grafting techniques. The suitable approach depends on the site, the available tissue, your oral health and the intended treatment goal.
Dr Robin will explain the proposed technique, alternatives, limitations and aftercare. Results vary, and long-term stability also depends on controlling the cause of the recession and maintaining good oral care.

Gum graft surgery FAQs
Suitability, technique and aftercare depend on your gum health and the area being treated. Dr Robin will discuss these with you after assessment.
Gum graft surgery adds tissue to a selected area where the gum has receded or is too thin. The aim may be to protect an exposed root, increase tissue thickness or improve the gum line. Dr Robin will explain the intended purpose in your individual case.
