About the treatment
Tooth-coloured composite fillings can repair selected areas of decay, wear or damage. The material bonds to prepared tooth tissue and can be shade-matched to the surrounding tooth, although it may still be visible in some lighting or positions.
The appropriate material depends on the size and location of the cavity, the bite and the amount of sound tooth remaining. Your dentist will explain composite and any suitable alternatives. Longevity varies with the tooth, restoration size, bite, diet and oral hygiene.

Assessment-led care
Composite can often be placed with a conservative preparation, but all decayed or unsupported tissue still needs to be addressed. The amount removed and the restoration design depend on the clinical findings.
The material is placed in stages, shaped to the tooth and checked against your bite. Replacing a sound metal filling solely for appearance also removes tooth tissue, so the benefits and disadvantages should be considered before treatment.

"My aim with any filling is to keep as much healthy tooth as possible. We treat the decay, match the shade and make it feel like nothing ever happened."
