Frequently asked questions
What happens at a periodontal consultation?
We measure the depth of the gum pockets, take X-rays and note any bleeding points. These findings shape a treatment plan tailored to your risk level.
How does Periodontal therapy differe from normal Hygiene treatment?
PMPR, or Professional Mechanical Plaque Removal, uses specialist equipment to reach several millimetres under the gum to clear hidden deposits of bacteria. A regular scale only cleans the visible tooth surface.
Does treatment hurt?
We numb the area with a small amount of local anaesthetic, so most people feel only mild pressure. Any tenderness afterwards usually eases in a day or two.
Can you offer IV Sedation?
Yes, we are able to undertake Periodontal Treatment under IV Sedation. Please let us know if you wish to discuss this during your appointment.
Why is gum disease important to treat?
Gum disease is an infection of the tissue that holds teeth in place. It starts with swollen, bleeding gums and can lead to bone loss and tooth loss if not treated.
